Neil Robertson v Mark Williams betting preview
By Graham on Jan 18, 2012 with Comments 0
Mark Williams is a former two-time Masters Champion with his last title coming in 2003 and it is good to see him back at the top of his game following the lean years of form that filled 2007 to 2009 when he dropped out of the top 16 and at one stage was as low as 22nd in the World.
Williams came through an exceptionally tough looking first round match but to be fair there should be no easy matches when your playing in the most prestigious invitational tournament for the elite players from around the globe. It was a scratchy type of match up with Maguire but Williams still managed to fire in four breaks of over 50 points, highest of which being a 72 coming in frame two on his way to a 6-4 victory – the repeat scoreline against Robertson would pay out 6/1.
You don’t tend to get a walkover when you go up against talented, but fiery, Scotsman Stephen Maguire in truth though Maguire was blown away in the first half of the match trailing 4-0 at the interval but Williams let him back in to correct the balance to firstly 4-2 and then 5-4 before finally ending it with a 51 break when he really needed it.
The man from down under, Robertson, came through a very tough test against the much improved Irishman Mark Allen by a 6-3 (A repeat of this against Williams pays out 6/1) scoreline which didn’t look on the cards at the interval as the two traded blow for blow to go in level at 2-2 – A repeat after four frames in this match is 6/4.
Following that though it was a different story and the 2009 World Champion raised his game beyond that of the level of his opponent cracking in three frames of 70 and above with the highest being a tonne in frame seven, Robertson’s breaks of 70 and above for match now totalled five, now in a race to six that’s impressive.
Betting Tips
This should be an out and out pot fest with Mark Williams on Friday afternoon between two men that have three World Titles between them, should be good to watch. Could be a lot of one visit frames in this match and it could go either way, Mark Williams is a slight underdog at 11/10 whilst Neil Robertson is an 8/11 favourite. We like Neil Robertson 6-4 Mark Williams paying out 5/1.
